The scent of honeysuckle
Flash . . . hummingbird wings.

The Scent of Lilacs

Purple ... White flowers
Flavor the slightest Spring breeze.
The scent of lilacs.

The scent of lilac reminds me of my grandmother.   It is her scent.  The money she gave us as children was always ironed then scented with lilac.  Lilac bushes filled her backyard.

My sister buried the end of my neice's umbilical cord in Zuni tradition under a French lilac bush, as  a subsitute for a Zuni hearth.  My dear friend, Rebecca is Zuni,  so she shared this tradition with us.

Tonight, Mollie and I enjoyed the beauty of the purple and white flower clusters as well as the scent of lilacs.

Haiku at Sunsets

8.4.12
The sun paints with light
Pastel watercolor clouds
In an evening sky.

8.3.12
On the horizon
Orange - russet evening light
smolders into dusk.

Bits and Pieces; Notes and Observations

I have bits and pieces with notes and observations written on them spread around.  I thought I share a few with you.

Last Week:

Over the mountains
Cumulonimbus clouds puff
Like heated popcorn.

Friday Night before the cold front moved in:
A muggy warm night
The tempting spray of sprinklers
A quick cooling run....

Friday Night:
A jar of seashells
Collected along the shore
Ocean memories.

Today, around 7:30 p.m. while leaving Layton:
Between sun and mountains a line of clouds fill the sky creating stripes of light and shadow on the mountainside.

Field 0f Blue

Across a field of blue
A herd of small white clouds graze.
Golden morning light.

A week away from the computer

I have been away from my computer, but still carried my journal.  Here a couple of Haiku poems that I noted in my journal, and that I would like to share.

10/10/11
Autumn Evening Walk

A chilly fall rain
Finds me bundled in a shawl
Warm - I walk Mollie.

10/14/11

Dark black silhouettes
Against golden orange sky
October sunset.

Sunrise flames

Above the mountains,
Rays of morning sun ignite
embers, gray clouds burn

Summer Monsoons

Last night we had a wet storm that dropped much needed rain.  It continued throughout the night into the morning hours.  While waiting in my car for an appointment, I worked on this:

The falling raindrops
Splatter against my window;
My view distorted.

Pleasant View Evening

Through evening shadows
Sunlight like golden syrup
backlights grazing sheep.

Summer Rain

Ymm!  A summer rain,
The heady scent of water
And sun-warmed earth.

Evening Light

The golden sunlight
Thick, paints the evening landscape
Before the sunset.

Through the golden sunlight
White cottonwood seed fluffs float
On the evening air.

Evening Showers

Across the valley
The layering of gray clouds
Forecasts evening rain.

My Mother's Garden

A burst of color
Beds of blossoms, buds, foliage -
My mother's garden.

Also,

A stepping stone path
Winds through colorful blossoms;
My mother's garden.

More Orange

Ymm!  Iceland poppies!

Bright crinkled petals
Unfurl from their prickly buds;
The blooms of poppies.

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

As twilight deepens,
A lone bird sings - chirps and trills;
Tonight's evening song.

Sunday, May 8, 2011

On the mountainside
Maple trees burst in spring green-
Lacy blooms and leaves.

A splash of color
Flutters by as the day warms
A Spring butterfly.
