Spring blossoms, Quince

Today on my drive home I noticed the spring blossoms.  Fruit tree are bloom, apricots, plums, and pears.  The choke cherries are showing petite green leaves.  The buds are green on the lilacs and on the maples in  warmer spots.  Oh, and there is a Quince bush in bloom.  It's pink, orange bloosom bright and cheery.

My grandma had a Quince bush in her side yard.  Its pink, orange blossom were much the same color as my mother's lipstick.  When we were children, we would pick a blossom, rub it across our lip much like we saw our mother apply her lipstick.

I remember in the fall, the Quince fruit look much like a small apple or pear.  It wasn't until much later that I learned  that it could be used to make quince jelly.  It sounded old fashion, so I didn't think much about it.  Today, I found a recipe for Quince jelly: http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/quince_jelly/
The further research brought more possibilities:

April Showers

After such a dry winter, April showers are visiting Ogden Canyon.  The canyon has turned green.  I understand the science of how rain provides nitrogen, which is necessary for the greening of lawns, and leaves.  But it is also great just to enjoy the beauty created by the coming of April showers.

Spring Green

The steel gray sky heralds an approaching storm and intensifies the spring green new leaves.

More Spring Color

The Mountains that surround the lower valleys are covered with a soft almost velvet, spring green with highlights of bright yellow- green Maple trees.  In the canyon the Maples leaves have appeared and flowered.  We are still waiting for the Oaks.  My mother's garden is filled with blooms - tulips, daffodils, and all colors, red, pink, purple, blue, yellow, white primroses.  The neighbor's plum tree has scented the air as well as dropping petals of confetti throughout the neighborhood.

On the freshly mowed, green lawn Mollie lies, enjoying the warmth of the sun and chewing on a stick.

Spring Green

Recent rain has made the grass in our yard and on the hillside turn green.   The addition of warmth and periods of sunshine have made the canyon's choke cherry trees pop green leaves.  Spring green!
