Letters are gift, or small treasures

If you have followed my notes at all, you know that I think that letters are great unexpected gifts, little treasures from friends. They are a gift of the time it took to share thoughts with another, they are to be cherished and read and most often reread.

Yesterday, I got such a lovely treasure from my niece, who has moved to California to be with her husband, who it in the Army studying language. She wrote a great description of the view from her new home, talked about exploring her new environment, and about family things that she misses. It is a perfect treasure. And I enjoyed her choice of stationary, it was a card from the Monterrey Bay Aquarium. She took the time to write and to chose a card that would be of interest to the scientific side of her aunt.

Latest project

I have made pins, charms and barrettes with felted animals and bugs, this time I thought I would try some stand alone fiber sculptures.

Raining

Raining, raining, I hear the rain tumbling, splashing and dancing down the rain gutter spout.

A Few More Pictures of My Mother's Garden

My mother's garden is lovely all the time, but I do love the flowers and colors of Spring!

The Wonders of Nature and Technology

Aren't wireless modems wonderful? I am sitting outside under a tree listening to the birds sing to each other, the sun and shadows dancing across my face, along with a light breeze. Over on one of my mother's benches a chipmunk is feasting on sunflower seed, its attention divided between my movement, the dogs and any other motion.

Oh, it is coming closer, then I move too suddenly and it is gone.

(And I must say that digital cameras are great, this little fellow was about ten feet away from me. I was able to zoom in to get him in the frame, then crop the picture to make him more of the subject. He is small, I hope that you can find him in the pictures.)
I started this post before I became distracted to comment share a beautiful May day with you. Oh, I guess that is exactly what I did! Enjoy!

Rainy Days & Mondays

I have decided not to let this rainy, Sunday get me down. I have discovered a few great things about rainy days. They are great days to catch up on laundry, unless you want your sheets lined dried. They are great days to re-read and write letters or other type of correspondence to friends (expect a e-mail or letter soon). They are even enjoyable days to walk your dog. Mollie and I have gone out in the rain. I find it's enjoyable as long as I can wear my bright yellow raincoat and felted wide brim hat (my hat reminds me of one that my grandfather use to wear). And rainy days are great days to enjoy the rain enhanced saturated colors of Spring. Have a great rainy, Sunday!

Just what I needed

Today was one of those gray spring days, when you are stuck in status.   You just need a touch of sunlight, and there it is; in your mailbox a letter from a friend.  Thank you!

Reading

I purchased "Masterpiece"  by Elise Broach at the bookstore yesterday.  I started reading while waiting for my mother to finish her shopping.  What a cute book.  It may be sold as a children's book, but it explores friendship in a way that we should all understand.

Mollie

I notice one of the pins that I made a while back reminds me of Mollie.  What do you think?

More Rain

April showers bring April flowers.  I just had to show you a few more shots of my mother's lovely garden.

Mom's Spring Garden

The primroses are in bloom!  They make a lovely border to the walk.

If you look

If you look you may find beauty!  Mollie and I saw many signs of spring during our Sunday morning walk.  Mollie is getting more patient with my stopping to take pictures.  The clouds were lovely.  And while trees are blooming in town, the canyon is about two week behind.  So I get to enjoy spring twice.  I hope that you will take a moment in your day to look for beauty!

Watercolor cyclamen

More snow... the poor weather and housebound boredom forces me to paint potted plants.  My mother's cyclamen.

My poor flowers

The forecasted snow is coming down.  It is a wet heavy snow.  Oh, my poor flowers.
