Autumn's scent

Autumn has its own scents - the sweet over ripe smell of windfall apples, the dry musty scent of fallen leaves, and evening bonfires.  Then there are the sounds - the clicking sound of grasshoppers as they fly, a scolding squirrel, the pop of acorns in the fire.  And what of taste - the sweet, juicy pear, the spice of apple sauce cookies, the warmth of chili.

Update of Canyon Color

The canyon changes daily.  The color in fall is lovely but fades.  I found a few sumac brushes that the moose had not snacked on, and a few acorns still on the scrub oak that the squirrels have not harvested. 

Dark Moon

In a pre-dawn sky, a dark moon rises over a jagged  silhouette  mountain range.  Its lower rim edged in a golden glow.  A companion in my travels, it peers coyly from behind mountain peaks and puffs of gray clouds in a pastel violet-blue sky.  Near my journey's end, it fades lost in the light of the sunrise.

Sumac vs. moose

Earlier this week, a moose snacked on the red, green, and orange sumac leaves.  It left only nibbled trunks.

A then there is the sumac whose leaves flame in fall red, yellow and orange.

Virginia Creeper

On our evening walk, Mollie and I enjoy exploring the beauty of the canyon.  Here are some shots of the Virginia creeper i just thought that I should share.

Digital cameras are great, sometimes.  Here are some close up shots that actually worked.

Mom has allowed some sunflowers to grow wild in the garden.  They are beautiful bright pieces of sunshine.

Evening Sky

Have you ever read the Cloud Spotter's Guide?  I enjoyed it and recommend it.  Rain is anticipated for tomorrow, but this evenings the clouds are lovely.

Pauline's Bike

Last night I captured the light on Pauline's bicycle.  It reminded me of the pictures you always see taken in Europe.  We got Pauline's bike out for MandiAnne to use.

Mollie the Mountain Dog

Mollie enjoys going for a walk or climb. One of her favorite things is to walk along the rock walls, or to balance on the fallen log,   She loves exploring the canyon landscape.  I enjoy the canyon views.

Evening Walk

Walking Mollie at twilight is a great time to enjoy the beauty that can be found in the canyon.  

Fall Garden

The garden in the Fall is so lovely.  The flowers are at their peak.  Blooms opening up everywhere.  And then there will be a frost.

Last night, an orange crescent moon glowed in the embers of a September sunset.

Saturday's Farmer's Market

It is saturday.  We went to the Farmer's Market in Ogden for tomatoes, peaches, and cucumbers.  We met MandiAnne, Spencer & Ivory.

In the eastern sky, the smallest sliver of a fingernail moon shined in the pink glow of sunrise.

The weather has changed, a cold front brought crisp morning temperatures. I walked Mollie this morning while wearing a jacket. The canyon is so dry, this weather change might help. The trees on the mountain side have started to show a tint of orange.
